KBL Round 37: Anyang lose to LG Sakers

The Regular Season in KBL is slowly approaching the end. But there may be still some important changes in the final standings in the last 4 rounds. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Top ranked Anyang (36-14) recorded its fourteenth loss in Changwon on Thursday night. Visitors were edged by second ranked LG Sakers (33-17) 76-75. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Anyang. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) fired a double-double by scoring 21 points and 16 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Jae-Do Lee (180-1991) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. LG Sakers' coach Sung-Won Cho used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American Omari Spellman (207-1997, college: Villanova) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for lost side. LG Sakers maintains second place with 33-17 record having just three points less than leader Anyang. Anyang at the other side still keeps top position with 14 games lost. LG Sakers are looking forward to face Wonju DB (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Anyang will play against KCC Egis (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Tenth-ranked Seoul Thunders (13-38) made lots of trouble for second ranked LG Sakers (33-17). The visitors from Changwon managed to secure only one-point victory 77-76. However their fans expected much easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. Jae-Do Lee contributed with 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Anthony Morse (206-1994, college: Tenn Tech, agency: SLN) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds for Seoul Thunders. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. LG Sakers maintains second place with 33-17 record having just three points less than leader Anyang. Seoul Thunders lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 38 lost games. LG Sakers will play against Wonju DB (#7) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Seoul Thunders will play against Mobis Phoebus in Ulsan and hope to get back on the winning track.
An interesting game where host Wonju DB (#8) won against 5th ranked Goyang 68-57 on Saturday evening. DeJon Davis stepped up and scored 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. At the losing side Jonathan Arledge responded with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wonju DB have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Goyang keeps the fifth position with 24 games lost. Wonju DB will meet league's second-placed LG Sakers in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Goyang will play against Seoul Knights and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Other games of round 37 were very predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
KCC Egis defeated Goyang in Jeonju 76-67. Bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders was beaten by Wonju DB at home 58-71. Seoul Knights won against KoGas on the opponent's court 107-105. Mobis Phoebus managed to outperform KCC Egis in a home game 79-68. Suwon KT recorded a loss to Anyang on the road 76-68.



Goyang - KCC Egis 67-76

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Daegu where 5th ranked Goyang (24-24) was defeated by sixth ranked KCC Egis (22-28) 76-67 on Wednesday. The former international forward Guna Ra (203-1989, college: Missouri) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and American-Ivorian power forward Deon Thompson (204-1988, college: UNC, agency: Slash Sports) chipped in 21 points. At the losing side American-Lebanese power forward Jonathan Arledge (207-1991, college: ODU, agency: BIG) responded with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Jincheol Park (200-1997) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. KCC Egis maintains sixth place with 22-28 record. Loser Goyang keeps the fifth position with 24 games lost. KCC Egis will meet league's leader Anyang on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Goyang will play against Seoul Knights (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked Wonju DB (20-27) defeated on the road bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders (13-38) 71-58 on Thursday. Wonju DB held Seoul Thunders to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 43.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Wonju DB made 8 blocks. The former international center Jongkyu Kim (207-1991) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and American forward Lennard Freeman (203-1995, college: NC State) chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds. Very expected game in Inchon where 9th ranked KoGas (17-32) were edged by third ranked Seoul Knights (31-19) 107-105 on Friday. Seoul Knights looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American center Jameel Warney (203-1994, college: Stony Brook) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners and the former international guard Sunh-Yung Kim (187-1988) chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists. Seoul Knights' coach Hee-Chul Chun allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side the former international forward Dae-Sung Lee (192-1990, college: BYU-Hawaii) responded with 39 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Murphy Holloway (201-1990, college: Ole Miss, agency: Octagon Europe) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Seoul Knights have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains third place with 31-19 record having five points less than leader Anyang, which they share with Mobis Phoebus. KoGas lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 32 games lost. Seoul Knights will meet at home Goyang (#5) in the next round. KoGas will have a break next round.
